Abkhaz wines have been awarded with a medal of the XVII International Professional Contest of Wines And Spirits in Moscow
The Russian Research Institute of Brewing, soft drinks and the wine industry with the support of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences under the high patronage of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) held its annual XVII International Professional Contest of Wines and Spirits.
The contest took place in Moscow from November 18th to 22nd. 17 producer countries submitted samples of their wines and spirits, including Abkhazia. The company “Wines and Beverages of Abkhazia” submitted their production.
Among the companies awarded the gold medal in the nomination for “Wines – Grape and Fruit” were the collectable dry red wine of the regions Pshap and Gumista “Ashta Lasha” of the year 2007.
In the nomination for “Sparkling Wines” the silver medal was awarded to the semi-sweet white wine “Abkhazkoe igristoe”.

Valeriy Borisovich Avidzba is a renowned Abkhaz winemaker and vine selector. He is the author of wines such as “Anakopiya”, “Dioskuriya”, “Radeda”, “Chegem”, “Eshera”, “Amra”, and red sparkling wine “Achandara”, and others.
