Boris Gurguliya
Boris Gurguliya was born in July 20, 1935 in the village of Kutol of Ochamchyra district of the Abkhaz ASSR and in 1948 he graduated from an eight-year school in his native village. In 1953 he graduated from Tamysh secondary school of D.Gulia and entered the Faculty of Philology of Tbilisi State University, which he graduated in 1958.
The first book of poems "Good Hands" was published in the Abkhazian state publishing house in 1961. The thematic range of his poetic works is wide but the patriotic and civic orientation prevails: the collection of poems "The Sun and People" (1966), the poems "Mother tongue", "Where are you, brothers, mahajirs?", "Ubykhs", "Samshit", " Nadezhda "," Yew trees "," I was born in the house of an Abkhaz "," It is difficult to live in a beautiful land ... "," Omaru Beiguaa ", etc. built on the poet's reflections on the fate of the Abkhaz people, which the author views through the prism of dramatic events in the history of Abkhazia. The poet was invariably in the forefront of the national liberation movement, and in 1992-1993 he was among the representatives of the Abkhazian intelligentsia who resolutely condemned the Georgian military aggression against Abkhazia: the collection Where the Fire of the Heart Fills (2003) consists of poetic works dedicated to the defenders of Abkhazia. Widespread fame in Abkhazia is enjoyed by the poem "Who Walked Into Immortality" about the legendary general Sergei Dbar. The best poems and translations of Boris Gurguliya entered the two-volume "Anthology of Abkhazian poetry of the 20th century". At present, a three-volume collection of the poet's works is published. The poet made a significant contribution to the development of Abkhazian literary criticism and journalism: his poems, articles and essays were published in the journals "Alashara", "Akua-Sukhum", the newspapers "Apsny", "The Republic of Abkhazia", "Yetsvaja" (Constellation) of Abkhaz University "and others.
