Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Abkhazia visited North Cyprus.
From 4 to 6 September 2012, the Abkhazian delegation headed by the CCI of Abkhazia President Gennadiy Gaguliya, vice president of the CCI of RA and plenipotentiary representative of the CCI of RA in Turkey Soner Gogua, visited the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce.
In course of the visit, the meetings were held between the CCI of RA and the Chamber of Commerce, Chamber of Industry, representatives of business communities, the Minister of Finance and ex-President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Mister Mehmet Ali Talat.
The “cooperation protocol” signed between the two chambers in March last year topped the agenda of the meeting during which mutual support was emphasized.
Receiving the representatives of the Abkhazian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the chairman of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce Gunay Cerkez underlined the need to take relations with the CCI of RA further within the framework of the cooperation protocol signed last year. He also stressed that Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and Republic of Abkhazia are two countries whose political situation has similar conditions, and they would be seeking for export opportunities, what will lead to more close and rapid development of relationships between two Chambers. In October the delegation of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce is planning to pay a visit to Abkhazia.
Cerkez pointed out that the “TRNC” has special relations with the European Union although the EU Acquis Communautaire is suspended within the “TRNC” territory.
The President of the Abkhazian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Gennadiy Gaguliya also stressed the need for increasing cooperation between the two chambers by sharing knowledge and experience.
The ex-President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Mister Mehmet Ali Talat, who was hosting the Abkhazian delegation, expressed his confidence, that commercial contacts between two countries will be always supported the authorities of North Cyprus. The wide spectrum of issues concerning the cooperation in other spheres of community life was determined as well. In our countries we have all needed possibilities for development of intensive economic cooperation, - added Talat.
During the stay in North Cyprus the delegation of CCI of RA was conducting meetings with leading and major entrepreneurs and manufacturers who expressed their huge interest to trade development between North Cyprus and Abkhazia. The possible spheres of cooperation might be import of the Cyprus goods to Abkhazia, cooperation in tourist sector and exchange of experience on developing the agriculture.
North Cyprus may become one of the developing markets to export the Abkhazian goods, as well as Abkhazia may be interested in purchasing goods, produced in Cyprus.
On the 7th of September the CCI delegation visited the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Istanbul, Turkey. The Chambers President Dursun Topchu accepted the Abkhazian delegation. Issues on interaction and cooperation were discussed at the meeting.
At the end of meeting, the vice-president Dursun Topchu expressed his readiness to visit Republic of Abkhazia in a short-term period.
