In order to ensure the protection of the state interests of the Republic of Abkhazia and the competitiveness of domestic products (services) to the introduction of state standards Abkhazia considered valid on the territory of Abkhazia, national standards of the former USSR, the Russian Federation. (Resolution of 23 September 1994, № 268 "On regulation of the standardization and uniformity of measurements in the Republic of Abkhazia").

On the territory of the independent Republic of Abkhazia still apply national standards of foreign countries.

In accordance with the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers № 66 dated May 3, 1996 on the approval of the "Procedure for the certification of the Republic of Abkhazia," the State Committee on Standards, Metrology and Certification of the RA suggested to hold the "A" system of certification of products (Abkhazia).

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry  of RA in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Abkhazia "About the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Abkhazia" with the number 762-XIV from 17.03.2003, has been conducting the examination for determining the country of origin of goods for registration certificate in form "ST-1". To perform work on the examination for determining the country of origin, exporters shall submit to the Chamber of conformity, certifying that the products meet the identified domestic regulatory requirements of foreign countries.

In a market economy of the Republic of Abkhazia is necessary to change the approach to the use of a system of standards, namely the establishment of national standards as a basis for the regulatory framework.

A certificate of conformity GOST certifying domestic product, the requirements of national standards of Abkhazia is the guarantor of the quality of products and has a positive effect on the formation of public opinion on the situation of the world market.

We believe that the participation of the Republic of Abkhazia in international economic cooperation and international trade, as well as for the formation of public opinion on the situation of the world market and to ensure the competitiveness of domestic products must be the establishment of national standards of the Republic of Abkhazia.
