Murat Yagan was born in a Circassian family in Turkey. He received his earliest spiritual training from the Elders of his Tradition of Ahmsta Kebzeh and later was accepted by and studied with the Bektashi dervishes in Turkey. In 1963, he immigrated to Canada where he has been passing on the ancient teachings of Ahmsta Kebzeh.

Mr. Yagan is the author of many books including: The Essence of Sufism in the Light of Kebzeh, The Abkhazian Book of Longevity and Well-Being, I Come From Behind Kaf Mountain (a spiritual autobiography), The Teachings of Kebzeh - Essentials of Sufism from the Caucasus Mountains and Ahmsta Kebzeh: The Science of Universal Awe, Vol. 1.

In addition, he has translated into English, The Gathering, the mystical poetry of Sun'ullah Gaibi, 17th century Turkish Sufi Master and Selected Poems of Yunus Emre, who was a 13th century mystic.

The last years Murat Yagan was working with many Kebzeh groups in North America and abroad. He and his wife Maisie lived in Vernon, British Columbia, where they recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Retired from carpentry, even in 94 years old, he remained extremely busy and productive.

Murat Yagan, Circassian by birth, is thought to be the last known living light-holder of this particular tradition. He received it directly from the Elders of his people. For more than twenty five years he had been sharing it with a small group of students in Western Canada.

A group of North American people began to work closely with Murat Yagan in 1975.

The transmission of the essence of the teaching of Ahmsta Kebzeh, including its practical application, has been achieved through lectures, seminars, workshops, evening classes, and casual conversations while working and socializing. Many of these talks were recorded and have been transcribed. The transcripts of these talks account for over 4,000 typed pages of material.
