29 May 2018 has become a historic day in the modern history of Abkhazia. On this day the Arab Republic of Syria has recognized the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia!
"This is another important step in strengthening the international position of the Republic of Abkhazia.", - said CCI president RA Tamila Mertskhulava.
The first relationship was conducted in 2008. In 2009 attempts were made to sign the cooperation agreements between the Chambers of Commerce of the Syrian Arab Republic and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Abkhazia, but at that time the MFA of Syria refused to such cooperation.
Only in June 2014 it became possible to sign the first agreement of cooperation with the Syrian Federation of Exporters and the Damascus Chamber of Commerce. The agreement was signed as a part of the official visit of the CCI delegation of RA to Beirut.
August 2017, at the invitation of the Syrian Federation of Exporters and the public institution for the organization of international fairs and exhibitions, the CCI of RA took part in the multispectral exhibition "59th International Fair of Damascus".
“The Abkhaz delegation took part in the opening ceremony of the exhibition as guests of honor. For the first time in many years the CCI of RA had an opportunity to participate in various international exhibitions, the flag of Abkhazia was raised along with the flags of all other countries that participated in the "59th International Fair of Damascus". It was a very significant event! "- says the president of the CCI of RA Tamila Mertskhulava.
During the exhibition, on 20th August 2017, the CCI of RA signed a bilateral cooperation agreement with the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of the Syrian Arab Republic.
"After signing an agreement of cooperation, the presidents of both chambers discussed the prospects for further cooperation and the possibility of strengthening mutually beneficial economic relationships. One of the members of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of Syria noted that the Syrian Arab Republic considers the Republic of Abkhazia to be a federal state to build relationships in various directions with.
29th September 2017, on the eve of the 24th anniversary of Victory Day, the former president of the Chamber of Commerce of RA Gennady Gagulia received a delegation from the Arab Republic of Syria, who came to Abkhazia with a return visit.
At the ceremonial meeting dedicated to the recognition of the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Daur Kove said: "It is necessary to note the special role of the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Abkhazia and the role of former CCI chairman of RA Gennady Gagulia, who made a significant contribution to the development of Abkhaz-Syrian relations.”
