The retro-steam train “Golden Eagle” has arrived to New Afon, Abkhazia on October 8 with tourists from different countries. This is a joint project of Russian Railways “Russian Railways Tour”, the English travel company GW Travel Limited, SC “Transsiberian Express” LLC “Tsirkon-Service”, the Russian tourist company “Riviera-Sochi”, and the Abkhaz Tourist Company “National Tourist Company-Tourist”, Ministry of Resorts and Tourism of the Republic of Abkhazia, State Transport Administration of the Republic of Abkhazia. October 1, the members of the lux class departured from the Kazan station in Moscow. It went through Saratov, Astrakhan, Grozny, Vladikavkaz, Kislovodsk, Sochi, and arrived to New Afon. And later will pass Sochi again through Krasnodar, Rostov-on-Don, Voronezh. The route will end in Moscow on October 13.
The train stopped on the platform "Psyrtsha" in Abkhazia and guests were taken by buses to New Afon. Foreign tourists were shown the most colorful sights of the city - the New Afon Cave and Monastery, the National New Afon Historical and Cultural sanctuary “Anakopia”, the agricultural fair, the Museum of the Abkhaz Kingdom and the waterfall on the Psyrtskha River. In addition, guests were able to get acquainted with national cuisine in the restaurant "Griffin". Guests were served by local guides and interpreters. The “Golden Eagle” retro train consists of 14 wagons for passengers and attendants. In addition to residential cars there are: a diesel car-generator, two dining cars, a bar, a kitchen, a service car, a separate car for staff. The structure is completely autonomous; it provides itself with the electric power. On board there is a monthly supply of drinking water and provisions. According to "Russian Railways Tour", the cost of tickets for a two-week retro tour for lovers of locomotive retro-movement starts from eight thousand US Dollars per person.
