Abkhazia will participate in the European Football Championships ConIFA

Abkhazia's national team will take part in an international football championship under the auspices of the independent Football Association (ConIFA) in 2017. "Only eight teams, including Abkhazia, will take part in the European Championships in the version ConIFA, which will be held this year in North Cyprus. The two teams enter the competition without a draw, it is Padania, the current European champion and the team of Northern Cyprus - host country ", - said Dmitry Pagava, the Vice President of ConIFA.

"In the championship will also take part Padania Team, Lapland, Székely region, the Isle of Man, Nice team and Occitania - instead of Eastern Armenia", - said Pagava.

He also explained that the team of Eastern Armenia will not participate in the championship, due to the fact that the Turkish side could not guarantee its safety.

"If any of the teams, selected by a random draw, fall on specific circumstances in the Championship have a chance to play teams of South Ossetia and Donetsk People's Republic", - added Pagava.

Confederation of Independent Football Associations ConIFA, established in 2013, brings together the national team and autonomies, which were not included in the FIFA.

In 2016 football championship among national teams of unrecognized countries was held in Sukhum. The national team of Abkhazia won the championship, defeating in the final match of the Punjab team with a score of 6:5.
